Hi everybody! So this is the fifth topic on the blog....
Since we're gonna discuss something about food and beverage next week, I'll make the topic all about food and beverage...
So here's the deal, there are a lot of countries all around the world, and each of those countries has its own special food.. So just pick one country and explain about the special food or beverage of the country.. You can include how to make it, what are the ingredients, what is so special about it, what is the story behind that food/beverage, etc... Just make it as interesting as possible.. and a little tips, pick a country that has an unusual food that not everybody know about that food; don't pick the same food as well guys... otherwise we won't get a lot of things to learn... :)
Thank you guys! I can't wait to read all of the comments...
have a good week ahead! :)
thank cilia for the topic.

ReplyDeleteI really want to eat sweet food eventually... so I think about sharing a sweet dish from Japan, mochi. People in Japan always eat mochi during the New Year event. ^^
The ingredients are actually simple, mochiko (glutinous rice flour/sweet rice fluor), sugar, coconut milk, water, food colouring (preferably red), and katakuriko (potato starch) <it can be changed to cornstarch).
All you need to do is put 1 lb mochiko into a large bowl, then add 2 1/2 cups of sugar, add 1 can of unsweetened coconut milk. After that add 1 3/4 cups of water and a few drops of food colouring. Mix it with whisk until there's no more lump. Finish mixing it, preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Cover the circular cake pans with aluminium foil (bottom and side), then grease the foil with oil or butter. Then you divide the batter into 3 cake pans, cover the batter with more greased foil so that the foil is touching the batter. After that you bake it for 1 hour, then let it cool for 1 hour. Dust the surface with katakuriko and invert the mochi onto the surface slowly and carefully, because it is sticky. Then cut off the crust around the edge of the mochi. You may cut the mochi into any shape you want and dust each side with katakuriko~~~
Then you may enjoy it ^^ You even can add red bean paste, ice cream, chocolate, or whatever you want in the middle if you want before you dust with katakuriko X3
I hope I can make it and eat it <3 writing this comment makes me so hungry~~
Thank you to Cilia for new post which is really interesting topic ^^
ReplyDeleteEating is one of my favourite activities that I love to do. There are many food and beverage in entire world, but I could not try them all. ReplyDeleteI will name a beverage here. Well, it is not only a beverage but also food. It is called snake wine. Originally from Vietnam but people classified it as Chinese traditional medicine. And many old Southeast Asian believe that this snake wine is good for health. It is popular in Vietnam, China, and Taiwan.
As the name, Snake Wine it contains a whole snake and rice wine. But do not deceive by the name. They are not only put the whole snake body in the wine bottle but sometimes they also put scorpion and insects too together with the snake. And sure the price is more expensive. The rice wine is mixed with the snake blood which people believed snake blood is good for your skin and metabolism.
I was wondering at the first time I saw this “unique” wine. How come they putted these poisonous animals to be a traditional medicine? I mean I know people eat snake for their health But scorpion and some various insects are kind of awkward. But it have been tested that snake wine or mix snake wine is good for our health. It can make our body warm, good for metabolism, good for our liver, skin, good to recover scars, it contain lots of protein, and increase your stamina.
The more awkward thing for me is when I saw some people not only drink the wine but also took out the snake and insects body and ate it directly. They even ate the eyes, head, and tail. They believe snakes and their tissue portions are good for the promotion of vitality and health. So some people dare to eat it. I haven’t seen any people eat the scorpion but surely there’re people who eat that too.
Well, last but not least, you can order it via online. Even at ebay. But now days people made it in capsule so if you don’t dare to drink the wine, you can drink the capsule instead of drink the wine.
Thank you Cilia for the topic. What a interesting topic it is.
ReplyDeleteI would like to tell you guys about Rose Hip Soup from Sweden. Rose Hip soup, of course, made with Rose Hips. Sometimes it is served as beverage or dessert. Tiny almond biscuits will be great food to accompany it.
Rose Hips are the fruit of wild rose that can be found in Sweden. The hips form after the petals have fallen down.
This is the ingredient that needed to create Rose Hips Soup:
• 1½ to 2 cups dried rose hips (fruit of a rose plant; available at health food stores)
• 1½ quarts (6 cups) water
• ¼ to ½ cup sugar
• 1 Tablespoon potato starch (cornstarch may be substituted)
You can see the steps in http://homecooking.about.com/od/fruitrecipes/r/blfruit8.htm

This is one of my favorite food, it's called Gado-Gado. It's a Sundanese food and very nice too if you eat the Gado-Gado with Sayur Asem, the one which Devina explained.
ReplyDeleteGado-Gado is similar with salad, is an Indonesian Salad. To make Gado-Gado it's also very easy, and you may also find the ingredients in the market.
Gado-Gado is nice when you eat it with rice, and also with "lontong". But you may also eat only the Gado-Gado. The Gado-Gado is mixed vegetable with peanut sauce. It's very good food, because you can eat it all time (for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. also for snack)
I hope you like Gado-Gado too! and if you like it try to make it at home. The recipe you can ask me, but now i must go. Hope you enjoy it.
