as you know, there're many job offer in many department in the hospitality industry and we all have studied about each department and job in the industry. We all know, every job and position is important to make the service culture and build the establishment.
But which job, department and position, according to your opinion is the best one to start your career in hospitality industry?

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, we've learn many things within almost a year to learn management (theoretically) and practically. There are some subject for me think that difficult for me. However, in the real industry it will be more hard, so I should learn harder.
In my opinion, to choosing career need a lot of things to think about. For me, there are two types of career. The first will be career which is suitable for myself. Which that step will make your work fun and do fluently as those career is liked by you. The second one will be, force career. This career usually from based on what we learn, which take as no option to work. For choosing force career, they learn step by step which vicky's post stated, "force ourself to start liking the department." In addition, it will make those people work more hard than others.
As we are in learning and training zone, we should learn with fun and get a lot of experience to reach our career. So let's try hard and perform our career in the future!!
Well the key in the hospitality industry is service. It doesn't matter whether you are working in the hotel, restaurant or even in the tourism or event industry, service is the key word.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, it is best for us to take operational same like vicky's comment. We are all aiming high in our careers. Most of us are aiming for managerial positions, but it is important for us to know the operational side as well.
I guess the internship we have are good opportunity for us to know more about the industry and how each departments work. We may find certain department interesting now, but changed our mind after the internship. So let's just make use of this internship as a time for us to gain experience, make mistakes, and understand more about the industry.

ReplyDeleteWe have known many departments in the hospitality industry and learn some of it profound enough. Indeed, we still need to learn more and read books by ourselves, even enter the field itself. Looking at the departments in hospitality industry, as Vicky has said, there is no wrong and no right where we want to start our career.
Although myself prefer to have a job in the back office but actually, somehow, operational job is better for the starting. It's not wrong to start directly to back office, but as some of our lecturers have said, we need to know what exactly is going on in the operational so we won't be deceived by our staff. I can agree no more with what Vicky said: "..., we must also force ourself to start liking the department." since that's true. Life will never always go to the way we want it to be, and it same as our career. Just think about the job (if you don't like it) as one of many steps that you need to take to do the job you want.
Let's do our best and work hard!! All the things happen for a reason~ if it's not now, then it maybe later on :)

ReplyDeleteWell, i think it doesn't matter which department you need to apply first as long as you are eager to learn about the department that you've guys chosen.
The internship program itself is about gaining as much knowledge and experience as possible so that in the future,it will hopefully help you all to work in this industry. For me, every department is just the same. All we need is to do our best and be determined enough so that we can enjoy working in our chosen departments. Well.. not necessarily enjoying it, but at least you're not suffered doing it.

ReplyDeletein my opinion, Sales and Marketing is the best department for career. Sales and marketing learn most of the department. As a sales and marketing person, you should capable in telling about the hotel so well. You must know the hotel completely. When you know the hotel completely, the hotel manager will believe in you more. Then, you will achieve a better position in the hotel.

Every department in hotel have important role in hotel. Whatever you choose for your first experience, it can give positive effect for your future. But in my opinion, you can choose operational position for your first experience. Therefore, you know exactly how the operation in hotel. After that, you can choose in managerial position because you know and understand the environment in the guest's view at first so after that you can manage them in back office..

ReplyDeleteSince i like to see pretty things and eat sweet things, i personally think that i really want to start my career in Pastry. I'm actually not really often makingcakes or make breads but i'm interest in doing it. And when i try to make those sweets, i feel warm and awesome (ga deng hahaha) i just feel like i have to nail it. I just love pastry, i don't know why. So i guess it's best for me to start my career in Pastry.

I agree with aya, i really love to bake cake and try something new.i often try to bake some cake at my house eventhough tbe property is not pro. Thats why my first choice is pastry and i like that one day i can open my own pastry store that everybody love.

ReplyDeletewell, i want to starting my career in food production department, because i think i have biggest passion in cooking, and through internship i want to be able to improve my skill in cook, and feel challenge when i cooking some dish. and i can no more agree with vicky mention about "There is no right or wrong, whether we start our career in different department that we are interested in " although is back office or front office, and don't forget do what we want to do, follow your heart to choose what career what you want to start.
some people start career from the front office, but it depend from our self, which department what we want to start.
