Unexpected Problems During Internship Program
As we all know, in less then 2 months all of us are going to do the internship program. Each of us will have the opportunity to work in different places and departments. During the internship program, we may find ourself faced with certain problems. In this opportunity I would like to invite all of you to give some tips on how to face problems (sexual harassment, unfriendly colleague, and etc) that we may find during the internship program.

ReplyDeleteIt is true that sometimes we might face to problems that really annoying. For example, problems with co-workers. In my opinion, we shouldn't take it personally and keep calm to do your work. Keep aiming the higher and the best. Don't let that problem make you desperate and can't achieve higher and higher. Keep do positive things, calm, and do the best. We can do it!

ReplyDeleteIt's true that we will face difficulty and problems in our internship. I can't agree more with Vicky's and Kevin's solutions for the situation. I will just add some more to it.
It might sound cliché but for me, I will pray and let GOD lead my way, but it doesn't mean I won't do anything. I will still do my best and not give up. Another thing is, we need to think logically and don't let our feelings win over us. If we can think logically, then the problems won't be so big anymore. You might also want to talk it with your friends so they could give you some advice or ease you a little bit. In this life, not everything will go well as we want; things might go wrong and different from what we expected. As long as we are in the right path: do our job the best we can, be honest, etc. then people that annoy or don't like you may gradually notice you and be kind to you, even help you.
Never give up!! Think positive and do our best!! ^^

ReplyDeleteinternship should be fun and yet problems such as sexual harassment do exist :(
There are lots of tips to avoid sexual harassment in the workplace.
First, girls should dress up decently yet smartly :) Second, we need to act properly and professionally (do not get too close with male colleague) or-else it will invite unnecessary attention.
If it does happened already, do report immediately to the concerned authority! Don't be afraid to report guys!

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, when such problems or inconvenience occur in your workplace, all you gotta do are these 4 steps below:
1. IF it's just a small problem, you need to remain calm and probably want to solve it by your own, but if it is a big one,YOU MIGHT have to tell miss Yuli about it and ask for her advice.
2 IF you still find any inconvenience, you MIGHT want to ask miss Yuli if there's a way to change your department.
3. IF such problems or inconvenience still occur (in this case, being sexually harassed by other colleagues), YOU MUST ask miss Yuli to transfer you to another hotel.
4. IF you STILL find the same problems at your transferred hotel, you might want to repeat from step 1. But if I were you, I would just simply enjoy my sabbatical as I'd leave my internship period immediately!
Well, let's pray for the best! hope there won't be any problems or inconvenience during our internship period. Amen. SEE YA FELLAS!

ReplyDeleteIts true that in real industry work place, we could not expect many happiness. I do agree with everyone here, and also with Risyad's post.
For unfriendly colleges, it is true that many worker (employees) do not like much for new trainee and employees in the industry, because we do not know well yet. For me, we should be patient and do our work, even though it is difficult for us.
As we are new to do internship, there are many situation happen, such as in between restaurant and kitchen. Because busy environment, there must be miscommunication which produce bad situation between employees in restaurant and kitchen.
However, internship is the place where we can get many experience for the future. So, I hope we can enjoy our 6 months internship with many patients and smile in our face~ let's face my friends !!

ReplyDeleteI’m also afraid to those kind of things because nowsaday sexual harassment is a big problem especially in hospitality industry. I heard some news about sexual harassment and how to solve this situation. In my opinion, the effective way to solve sexual harassment is done by the company itself. How they can give safety for their employees. They give guidelines to avoid sexual harassment. Maybe they give training to them. For example, karate,taekwondo, kungfu, and many more. Or another way, hotel can give the facility to avoid this bad accident like that. For instance, the room attendants have special button to press when they face this problem. So, the others can know if they call them and there will be a person come to help them.
Entering to new work environment must be so difficult because we have to know the new environment and also the senior. Based on my sister’s experience, she said “Senior always do right even though they do wrong.” Means, we have to see senior higher than us. We always have to obey whatever they want.
Somehow this makes me so angry! The comments were deleted by the blogger, I can't find the comments which were written on 12 May. I kindly asked the people who have commented before 13 May to write a comment again. As long as I remember there are only 5 comments: Vicky, Kevin, Belinda (me), Oca, and one more person (Is it Cilia or Risyad?). If I am wrong about the person, I am sorry. Just those who have written the comment before please write again! It's not important whether the comment is the same or not.

So let me write the comment again --". Same as before I can't agree more with Vicky's comment for the sexual harassment thing and also Devina's. It's true nowadays people need to learn to defense themselves, especially women, never let men to look down at you!
Like I said on the original comment that I actually have written, although it sounds like a cliché, but it's important: pray to GOD! (base on you faith) He will lead you guys to solve the problem. You also need to think positive when there's a colleague or worse colleagues treat you unfriendly. It's so true with what Devina has said (written), seniority will always be anywhere in this world. As long as the unfriendly treat is not out of the boundary, just let it be and still talk to that person and be kind. Be patient with that kind of person, one day she or he could be the one that would help you. When you have a problem, you can tell your friends and who knows they will make you feel better after that and give you some advice. ^^

1. Problem/inconvenience occurs at the very first time.
Small one: remain calm because you probably want to solve it by your own.
Big one: TELL MISS YULI and ask for her advice.
2. It happens again.
Ask miss yuli if there's a way to change your department.
3. It Happens for the 3rd times and this time, being sexually harassed by other colleague.
Kindly ask miss yuli to transfer you to another hotel.
4. It happens (AGAIN) in your transferred hotel.
-Repeat from step 1
-Say "Adiós!!" to your internship program.

ReplyDeleteSoon or later, our internship will start, its nervous, but its exciting to learn and get experience.
During internship, there must be unexpected situation while we are doing our duty. I agree with Vicky's post. For unfriendly colleges, if possible, we should be able to keep patient.
Moreover, unexpected situation might come anytime, as we are in learning process, we should keep be careful and be ware of what will happen next.
I also agree much with Risyad's post, that will help us a lot!! thank you for good post.

There are few steps can be done to avoid sexual harassment in the industry. First, we need to dress up decently yet smartly. For women, it is much better not wearing short skirt! Second, it is much better that we don't be too friendly as it can invite unnecessary attention! just don't get physically too close with male colleague!
Last, if it does happened already, all you need is just report it to the concerned authority!

Indeed, we will be facing difficulties and problems. We will be meeting new people and adapting to a new environment.
ReplyDeleteI think a problem that will be faced will be pressure and competition. From what I have heard from lecturers and seniors, we will have difficulty in adapting to the new environment for the first few months. So stay strong, it will be hard at beginning but I am sure we will all adapt well.
